Departmental Overview
The Department of Applied
Mathematics and Statistics is part of the College of Engineering and Applied
Sciences (CEAS) at Stony Brook. It is located in the Math Tower, which
is attached to the Physics Building and situated at the north end of the
Academic Mall (look in the upper lefthand corner of the map
of the Academic Mall).

Research Funding:
Grants from National Science
Foundation, Department of Energy, National Institutes of Health, Army,
Air Force, Department of Education, and several industrial companies. About
$2,000,000 annually.
Computing Facilities:
A state-of-the-art
128-node Network of Workstations named Galaxy.
Every of its nodes consists of a two Pentium II's (or Pentium III's) yielding
a total super computer system with 256 cpu's, running the Linux operating
system. In addition we have a network of 100 workstations ( Sun,
SGI, and Windows NT) and 2 fileservers, all linked by a departmental fast
ethernet. Graduate students have automatic access to this system.
Undergraduate students
have access to Mathlab, a network of Sun Stations, in the SINC site (basement
Math Tower), with the proviso that they are signed up for a (applied) mathematics
course.
