The department has a policy that faculty and postdocs are to upload their preprints to the web themselves. Detailed instructions are given below. If you have any question, please contact one of us. Brent Lindquist, lindquis@ams.sunysb.edu Yan Yu, yan2000@ams.sunysb.edu. ================================================================== How to place a preprint to the ams web: A. Update the html page on the web server 1. Login to indy7.ams.sunysb.edu with login name www. 2. The passwd for www can be obtained from either Yan or Brent. 3. cd papers 4. Modify the appropriate file, e.g., papers04.html for preprints in the year 2004. You will need to add your preprint info in two places in that file, simply following the previous entries. i) One at the beginning of the file: preprint number and the title. For the preprint number, just increment 1 from the last number. ii) At the end of the file: preprint number, the title, the authors, and the abstract. 5. Save the file and logout. B. Place the paper on the ftp server You will need to place the actual preprint on our ftp server. The file can be stored as any one (or all) of the following formats: compressed postscript (.ps.gz) Adobe pdf (.pdf) Word (.doc) power point (.ppt) The ftp server is chaos.ams.sunysb.edu. 1. Login to chaos with your login name. 2. To have write access on the server, you will need to belong to ftp group. Simply type 'newgrp ftp'. It will ask you a passwd. The passwd can be obtained from Wonho or Brent. 3. Copy the preprint file to the directory /var/ftp/pub/papers/2004 4. Filename conventions are susbYY_XX.ps.gz and susbYY_XX.pdf where YY represents the year and XX represents the preprint number. 5. Give general read permissios to the above files, e.g. chmod 644 susb04_01.ps.gz 6. exit 7. logout C. Confirmation Open a web browser and make sure that your preprint is there and that the link is working.
