Statement of my thought sequence of the paintings and their divisions: The ones from Eastern Europe are set aside from the ones of modern Israel. Modern Israel is the blossoming of the seeds planted through the centuries, throughout the diaspora. Now, since 1948, Israel with the help of early pioneers,and armies that must fight to preserve the land, some of the joys foretold in the Torah and the Prophets are being fulfilled.

I consider the paintings to be loosely classified into three series:
  • Series A: Eastern Europe
  • Series B: Early work of the state of Israel
  • Series C: Fruits of the work




    Heavenly watch of Jewish Cemetery. This is an image from my own imagination , please note in the left middle, the star of David.The Hebrew lettering is just barely sketched in. It is part of my Eastern European series (Series A).




    Lipot Baumhorn and his synagogue in Lucenec, 1939, Eastern Europe. This is an image I had of the Synagogue in Lucenec, Slovakia whose interior is completely destroyed, but I chose to show it in a partically resurrected form. (Series A).




    Memory, Light and Memorium, Eastern European 1930's This is an image of children at play in the streets of Lodz, Poland prior to the 1939 destruction. Darkness on the left side of what is to come and light on the right which is a form of memorial to these people.




    Diving among the corals at the Red Sea (Series C). This expresses the wonder of multitude of coral in Israel. 486




    Cotton fields (Series C). In the valley of Esdraelon, Israel, I imagine this as a great accomplishment on a kibbutz where cotton can be brought to life. 487




    Prayer at the Wall (Series C). This represents the grand tradition of a father teaching his sons prayers at the Kotel. Psalms 147:"The Lord builds up Jerusalem" 488




    Old harbor, Jaffa (Series ??). This is the old port of Jaffa near the new city of Tel Aviv. I can almost see Jonah setting out on his journey. 491




    Prayer before battle (Series B). This is a special troop unit that combines military service and religious studies, Yeshiva Esder. 492




    The study of Torah (Series C). This image seeks to express the strong unity of fervent study of the sacred Book, the Torah. 493




    Homecoming (Series B). A child returns to her mother's embrace at the Tel Aviv airport. 494




    Wind Surfers, Tel Aviv (Series C). All can be enjoyed in this holy land. 495

    Town elder (Series A). This is an image of the town clerk of the 1930's Poland.

    The Pilgrim (Series B). This is one of the most complex of all of the paintings. The Pilgrim stands with an upside down cross as he stares at a Jewish cemetery. The star of David is central and the wandering Jew is on the left. The Pilgrim does not seem to understand what he sees.
