3DMA-Fiber runs under Unix/Linux operating systems. We have developed it under the RedHat operating system for releases RH6.X through RH9.X. It has also been run under SGI Irix and SUN UNIX operating systems.

3DMA-Fiber produces three types of graphic plots: x-y plots displaying results from statistical analyses, 2D views of slices from the image (aligned perpendicular to the z-axis) showing the user's data set during manipulation, and 3D plots. Processing and/or display of these plots utilizes inexpensive software.

  which is a readable, highly intuitive, text based, plot scripting language. A version of "Jgraph" is included ("3dma_rock/bin/JGRAPH/") with the 3DMA-Fiber distribution. "Jgraph" produces encapsulated Postscript output which, under Unix/Linux, can be displayed via the Postscript interpreter "ghostview"

  distributed by the GNU opensource consortium. "ghostview" is available through the standard RedHat Linux OS distributions up through RH8.0. Under RH9.0 it is replaced by "Gnome ghostview" ("ggv", Gnome.org)

• Two dimensional slice plots are printed as files in SUN RASTER ("*.ras") format. The files are compressed using the GNU "gzip" ("*.gz") facility. Under Unix/Linux, these slice plots can be displayed via "xv" (John Bradley, Trilon)

  One advantage to "xv" is that it recognizes "gzip" compression files (extension ".gz").


• 3D graphics are output in two formats, Inventor and OOGL (Object Oriented Graphics Language). As utilizing Inventor format requires purchasing a commercial license for viewing software, the OOGL format can be viewed utilizing Geomview, a publically available, open-source, 3D viewer for Unix/Linux. We are therefore phasing out future development of Inventor-based graphical output.
