The data is stored in a bit-packed format. In its segmented form, the
data is treated as unsigned characters with values of either ``0'' or
``1''. As 8 bits is more information than is needed, this file
contains the binary data stored as 8 voxels per byte (character). The
binary header is comprised of the following:
- nx (integer) horizontal dimension of data set
- ny (integer) vertical dimension of data set
- bnxy (integer) number of bit-packed characters in the data file
- resid (integer) number of left over bits from last character
