Attendance: All students are expected to attend all classes and all exams.

Course Description:

A survey of data analysis, probability theory, and statistics. Stem and leaf displays, box plots, schematic plots, fitting straight line relationships, discrete and continuous probability distributions, conditional distributions, binomial distribution, normal and t distributions, confidence intervals, and significance tests. May not be taken for credit in addition to ECO 320.

  • Continuous random variables and probability distributions (Chap. 4) 4 class hours
  • Random samples and Central Limit Theorem (Chap. 5) 2 class hours
  • Descriptive Statistics (Chap. 1) 4 class hours
  • Point Estimation (Chap. 1) 3 class hours
  • Confidence Intervals (Chap. 7) 4 class hours
  • Testing Hypotheses (Chap. 8) class hours
  • Two-sample problems (Chap. 9) 4 class hours
  • Regression (Chap. 12) 2 class hours
  • Examinations and Review 5 class hours

    Grading: Course grade is determined by credit from assignments, midterm and final exam through the following table:

    Tentative Scale for Letter Grade:

    540-600 A, A-
    450-540 B+, B, B-

    Course Policy: Each assignment will be collected one week after it is distributed. Midterms are 1 hour each, and final exams will be 2 hours. Students are allowed to drop the grades of two assignments. There will be no makeups on assignments, tests and final exams. Each test will be announced at least one week in advance. Final exam will be announced two weeks in advance.
