XEmacs is a powerful, extensible text editor with full GUI support. It is based on Lisp interpreter which provides full Turing machine power and thus an answer to frequntly asked question: "Can you do … in XEmacs ?" often is: "If it is computable, you can." [1]

At the moment I use beta version of XEmacs (from CVS) with MULE (MULti-lingual Enhancements).

I use XEmacs to do almost all my computer work, that includes:

• Software development in Java, C, C++, Python, Perl
• Reading e-mail and Usenet news
• Managing my address book
• Writing texts in LaTeX [2]
• Creating webpages
• Sometimes also playing games (Tetris, Mines)

There is a great number of packages available to (X)Emacs users. My favorites include:

• Gnus: Usenet news and e-mail user agent
• JDE: Java Development Environment for Emacs
• BBDB: Big Brother DataBase; just keeps records on things [3]
• AUC TeX: for writing and formating TeX files
• X-Symbol: WYSIWYG support for LaTeX and HTML without limiting their power.
• W3: www browser under XEmacs
