A combined simulation of a granular
material with a shear band

Effects on different length scales are vital
in studying granular media. Simulating
granular material with two vastly different
length scales efficiently requires
molecular dynamics on the microscale
with a macroscopic continuum method
elsewhere, which allows for the simulation
of much larger systems than would be
possible using only MD, while still
preserving microscale where necessary.
We use this technique to model
the shear band in a granular media.
